Raines paces Texans on Day One of Texas Tech Open

LUBBOCK, Texas – The reigning WAC indoor 60-meter champion Justin Raines wasted no time turning heads in Lubbock on day one of the Texas Tech Open.

Raines, a sophomore out of Copperas Cove, broke the school record in the 60m dash with a run of 6.70 that won him his heat and advanced him to the next section. He also won his heat in the 60m hurdles, running a time of 8.11 to advance.

Another school record topped as true freshman Sage Barmettler cleared 3.73m in the pole vault. This result came after Barmettler previously set the school record at the Crimson and Gold Classic in December, clearing 3.53m.

Brandon McKissick, a graduate student out of Liberty Hill, impressed in the 400m dash as he placed third in his heat running 48.41. The run slotted him in third place all-time in Tarleton history, just a hundredth of a second behind his own time (48.40) from the 2020 season. Freshman Staton Canyon ran a 49.37 in the 400m dash, good for the 27th best time at the Tech Open.

The top women’s performer in the 60m dash for the Texans was junior Hannah Dudley. Dudley ran a 7.69 which placed her in 21st out of 63 student-athletes.

In the men’s long jump, graduate student Alan Palmer jumped 6.48m.

Junior Brady Sisneroz was the second highest men’s finisher for the Texans in the 60m hurdles, running 8.61 seconds.

The Texans will be back in action tomorrow with events beginning at 10 am CT. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
