With the Plug 2.0 One X, Gigaset’s smart power outlet enters the next round, but it does not directly replace its predecessor, but rather complements the Bocholt-based company’s portfolio. The big difference between the two is that the new model can also record the power consumption of connected devices. In addition, switching via Amazon Alexa and Google Home is supported.
To put the socket into operation, a Gigaset Smart Home Base is mandatory. This manages all smart home products, connects them to each other and allows their configuration. Since Gigaset uses a DECT-ULE connection between the devices and the base, the user might get the idea that it is compatible with products from other manufacturers. For example, the FritzBoxes, Telekom’s Magenta products or Becker, among others, also rely on DECT-ULE. However, they are on a different protocol, so they are not compatible with each other. However, the smart door locks from Nuki can be easily integrated via the Elements app, and a link with Google Home or Home Connect Plus is also enabled directly by Gigaset. It is also possible to connect a Hue Bridge that is available in the network. Gigaset does not provide any concrete information about the support of Apple’s Homekit or the Matter standard, and neither is possible at the time of testing.
