Radxa ROCK 5A: New single-board computer introduced with Raspberry Pi form factor and Rockchip RK3588S SoC

Radxa has quietly introduced the ROCK 5A, an 85 x 56 mm single-board computer (SBC) based on the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B form factor. According to a company blog post, the ROCK 5A utilizes the Rockchip RK3588S, a low-powered SoC with four ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores, four Cortex-A55 cores and a Mali-G610 GPU. Additionally, the Rockchip RK3588S offers an NPU that outputs at up to 6 TOPS.

Moreover, Radxa equips the ROCK 5A with 4 GB, 8 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, a Micro SD card reader and an eMMC 5.1 flash storage connector. Like the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, the ROCK 5A also has a 40-pin GPIO header, twin micro HDMI 2.1 ports and USB Type-A ports. Radxa adds that the SBC will support M.2 SSDs via an E Key slot too, although these will only operate on up to SATA 3.0 or PCIe 2.1.

Radxa hopes to begin shipping the ROCK 5A in Q2 2023. Currently, the company plans to offer the SBC with 4 GB of RAM for US$99, although there will be 8 GB of RAM and 16 GB of RAM options available for US$119 and US $159, respectively. Alternatively, Radxa is selling a US$5 redemption code that will take US$30 off all SKUs. Please see Radxa’s blog post for more details.
