There is a second team interested in Buffalo Bills quarterback coach Joe Brady.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Los Angeles Chargers have requested permission to interview Brady for their vacant offensive coordinator position. The first reported team to do so was the New York Jets last weekend.
In an added nugget, Garafolo notes there have been “multiple requests” regarding Brady. At this time, the Chargers and Jets are the only two teams publicly reported on as teams interested in Brady.
On Jan. 17, Los Angeles fired Joe Lombardi as their offensive coordinator. That came after the Bolts’ epic playoff meltdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Brandon Staley survived and Lombardi did not.
At this time, it’s uncertain how close Brady would be to leaving.
In the report linking Brady to the interview in New York, there was mention that he could decline that job because of his desire to stay in Buffalo.
In reality, that likely has something to do with the Bills’ current OC, Ken Dorsey.
Dorsey is under a bit of fire following Buffalo’s departure from the postseason, but other teams have already expressed interest in him. On Jan. 10, the Carolina Panthers requested permission to interview Dorsey for their vacant head coach position.
Dorsey is unlikely to land that gig due to his inexperience, but down the line, he could become a serious contender for other bench boss jobs. That could leave Brady first in line to take over as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator.
Brady, 33, does have some brief experience as an offensive coordinator, so his departure over Dorsey’s might be more realistic. Brady was Carolina’s offensive coordinator briefly in 2020 before an apparent falling out with then head coach Matt Rhule.
