Village residents have been told they need to “use it lose it” after the Post Office announced that its services will reduce from six to two hours a week starting from next month.
Bettws Cedewain’s current Post Office provision inside the Community Hall will be replaced from February 7 with a mobile post office based in the car park on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3pm to 4pm.
The existing service – 9am to noon on Tuesdays and 1pm to 4pm on Thursdays – will end on February 2, and will mean people living in the village and surrounding area will lose around four hours of services.
Customers have been told that the Post Office vehicle will have wheelchair and disability access friendly facilities.

Councilor Heulwen Hulme, who represents people living in the neighboring village of Tregynon, said residents in Bettws Cedewain need to “use it or lose it” and urged them to keep services in the locality.
“Prior to covid it was a very proactive service, she said. “Since it’s declined to a very minimal service.
“Residents can access cash withdrawals from all major banks, deposits to all major banks, local and international postage, currency requests; you name it, our local post office can do it. Keep the service local.”
Other Post Office services in the area are based at The Garage, Tregynon (Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 8.30am to 6pm; Wednesday: 7.30am to 6pm; Thursday: 8am to 6pm; and Saturday: 8.30am to 1pm), Abermule mobile service near the former convenience store (Monday: 2.30pm to 3.30pm; Thursday: 9am to 10am); Adfa Post Office (Monday: 8.30am to 4.30pm; Tuesday: 8am to noon); and Newtown Post Office, Shortbridge Street (Monday to Friday: 9am to 4.30pm; Saturday: 9am to noon).
