Customers of Tesco Mobile, which is an O2 (VMO2) based Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), can now harness a new trade-in scheme that enables them to donate their old mobile phones or other devices for cash (direct to your bank account ) or a Tesco e-gift voucher, usually within just 5 working days.
In order to do this, customers first need to visit the Assurant Tesco Mobile trade in section of their website to “receive an instant valuation” for their mobile phone or device.
We did attempt to try this system ourselves to see how it worked by choosing an Apple iPhone 13 Pro (128GB) as a base example from the list, albeit one in perfect condition. The estimated valuation we got back was £455, but you could probably expect to get around £100-£200 more for this by selling on auction platforms like eBay.
Rachel Swift, Tesco Mobile’s Chief Customer Officer, said:
“We’re always looking for ways to bring supermarket value to mobile, and we know families are facing increased cost of living pressures right now. Partnering with Assurant is just another way we’re helping our customers save money – by turning their old mobiles or tablets into cash or vouchers. It’s also an opportunity to help reduce waste by enabling the resale of used devices, reducing the number of mobile phones in landfill.”
The initiative is said to form part of Tesco Mobile’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and value for customers.
