BLACKSBURG, VA.—Carlee Hansen won the title in the women’s 800 meters run to highlight a strong performance by North Carolina’s indoor track and field team at the second day of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday.
Hansen won the 800m in a time of 2:09.34, with teammates Taryn Parks (2:13.35) and Ella Auderset (2:13.98) finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Madison Huecker finished 11th in the event while Addison Pignetti was 14th as the Tar Heels placed fifth in the top 14 finishers.
The Tar Heels got fourth-place finishes in the women’s high jump (from Sydney Banks) and men’s shot put (from Spencer Williams), and Michael Spragley took third place in the men’s 800m.
The Tar Heels will return to action at the Penn State National Invitational next Friday and Saturday in University Park, Pa.

• Sydney Banks finished fourth in the women’s high jump with an effort of 1.73m (5-8).
• Freshman Spencer Williams took fourth place in the men’s shot put with a throw of 16.29m (53-5 ½). Fellow freshmen Tyler Mayerhoff (15.53m/50-11 ½) and Ty Castro (15.53m/50-11 ½) finished eighth and 10th, respectively.
• Freshman Jordan Purvis finished ninth in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 14.30m (46-11).
• Michael Spragley took third place in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:51.94.
• Junior Ben Finger took fifth place in the men’s pole vault with a 5.01m (16-5 ¼) effort.
