Grant Lands Roscommon County United Way Mobile Soup Kitchen

Mobilesoup1You might have seen a soup kitchen before, but have you ever seen a mobile soup kitchen? If you’re in Roscommon County, chances are you may just see one soon.

Thanks to a grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation, the Roscommon County United Way is now able to take their soup kitchen on the road.

Representatives from Consumers and the United Way of Roscommon County unveiled the mobile soup kitchen Friday naming it Dish of the Day. The truck will feature a full kitchen and will be used to distribute meals to people in need. Mobilesoup2

The Executive Coordinator for the Roscommon County United Way, Sherrie Benchley, says the impact of their mobile soup kitchen could be huge for rural areas like Roscommon County. She says they’re excited to see the difference it makes for people who are struggling.

unitedwayrosco“This is not only a dream come true for us that we’re going to be able to do this, but it’s a dream come true for this community. We can reach out, we can be places you know,” says Benchley.

They will fundraise by selling food at community events and will even use it to provide food to first responders in a case of emergency.

The Dish of the Day will hit the road for the first time during Tip-up Town.
