PC Game Pass Subscribers Having Trouble Playing Monster Hunter Rise

PC Game Pass users are reporting that Monster Hunter Rise isn’t working due to both technical issues and account-based access problems.

PC Game Pass users are having issues with Monster Hunter Rise following the multiplayer action-adventure game’s launch last night. Monster Hunter Rise is one of the biggest early 2023 releases for Xbox Game Pass. It’s been highly anticipated since its announcement in December 2022. Yet there have been inklings of issues with the Xbox app on PC’s Monster Hunter Rise ports even before the game launched, and now those issues have come to fruition.

One big point of frustration among PC Game Pass users leading into Monster Hunter Rise‘s launch for the subscription service is that Capcom chose not to implement cross-play with other PC players (or PlayStation, for that matter). That means that PC gamers who have friends playing the Steam version of Monster Hunter Rise won’t be able to play with them. PC Game Pass users do have cross-play enabled with Xbox players, but there were concerns that Capcom wasn’t prioritizing the concerns of PC Game Pass users.

That theory may now be proven correct, as PC Game Pass users are reporting some frustrating issues with Monster Hunter Rise‘s launch on the platform. The issues are varied and include examples of game crashes, account restrictions, GPU support problems, and more focused technical issues like double keyboard inputs and co-op not working for cloud users. It isn’t clear whether these are rare, individual issues or if there are broader problems for all PC Game Pass subscribers.

Perhaps the most concerning error being reported reads as, “Game cannot be launched because it was not purchased with the game account.” This could be related to the use of Xbox accounts or more specifically PC Game Pass subscription accounts. Either way, it indicates an issue with bringing Monster Hunter Rise to PC Game Pass, in general, and raises questions regarding whether Capcom needed more time before launching the game for the subscription service.

Regardless of the issues, Monster Hunter Rise is now available for PC Game Pass. It can be searched for and downloaded from the Xbox app with relative ease. And while some players are reporting issues, not all players are. PC Game Pass subscribers may be able to download and play without an issue.

Whether the technical issues with Monster Hunter Rise on PC Game Pass are due to Capcom or Xbox, all that really matters is that they’re solved so they either are all fixed or at least impact very few overall players. Stay tuned for updates on issues with Monster Hunter Rise on PC Game Pass in the hopefully near future.

Monster Hunter Rise is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
