Apple Watch “Ultra 2” to debut with an in-house microLED display in 2024

Apple Watch Ultra 2, Watch Ultra series 2, or, perhaps, Watch Ultra 2024 – by any name, Apple’s new top-end wearable is now projected to launch with what its Cupertino-based maker is likely to back as its most exciting and inspiring breakthrough to date: a world-first in-house display.

The company has been linked to such a secret project since 2018, in what has been slated as a potential shock to the current display market and its major players. Now, it is thought to come to fruition in the form of a whole new version of the Watch Ultra’s 1.9-inch screen.

Should this be the case, it makes sense to start out with proprietary panels that might be as small as possible, in terms of cost and ease of manufacture.

Presuming Apple has indeed been successful in this endeavor, as well-known Bloomberg tech correspondent Mark Gurman now asserts, it is likely to tout the resulting second-gen Watch Ultra as more efficient and effective than ever before thanks to its custom-made screen technology .

Furthermore, the OEM may start making similar claims for the iPhones, iPads and even MacBooks to come after that, as Gurman believes that this “Apple microLED” will scale up to fit devices of bigger and bigger form-factors as time goes on.
