Samsung introduced plenty of products during CES 2023, despite the impending arrival of its next month’s Galaxy Unpacked hardware event. Smart TVs provided an area of focus for the company at this year’s trade show, with new Neo QLED, Micro LED and QD-OLED models showcased. Seemingly, CES 2023 served as a taster for what is to come for Samsung’s high-end Smart TV series, with the company sharing only minimal details about upcoming Neo QLED models in particular.
So far, Samsung has teased that there will be new 4K and 8K Neo QLED TVs this year, albeit without specifying when. Likewise, it is unclear what screen sizes will be available. For reference, Samsung released nine Neo QLED series last year spanning 43, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and 85-inch screen sizes. Based on Samsung’s announcements so far, all 2023 Neo QLEDs should offer 14-bit processing, AI upscaling and Auto HDR Remastering, a technique that relies on deep learning to analyze and apply HDR effects on SDR content in real time.
Theoretically, Auto HDR Remastering will produce brighter and more vibrant SDR content, although it remains to be seen whether it affects image quality. Samsung boasts that the new Neural Quantum Processor in 2023 Neo QLED TVs enables other features too, such as Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro for a more ‘lifelike picture’ and improved image depth. Samsung adds that it has integrated Matter, SmartThings, Thread and Zigbee connectivity on all 2023 Neo QLED TVs too, negating the need for a dedicated SmartThings dongle to connect and control Thread or Zigbee devices. Samsung will announce pricing and availability at a later date.
