BenQ has finally shared details about the GP500, a projector that the company quietly listed on its website in October. One of several projectors that BenQ announced during CES 2023, the GP500 is a DLP projector that resolves at 4K (3,840 x 2,160) and offers 1,500 ANSI Lumens of peak brightness. According to BenQ, the GP500 provides a 100,000:1 contrast ratio from its quad LED light source, which should last up to 20,000 hours in normal mode, or 30,000 hours in ECO mode.
Additionally, BenQ claims that the GP500 covers 90% and 97% of the DCI-P3 and Rec.709 color spaces, underlining the projector’s good color accuracy. The GP500 also works to a 1.3x zoom ratio and a 1.0-1.3 throw ratio, which allows it to create a 150-inch image when positioned 3.3-4.3 meters from a wall or a screen. Alternatively, the projector can produce a 100-inch image at 2.2-2.9 meters or a 120-inch one at 2.7-3.4 meters. The GP500 offers autofocus, 2D keystone correction and obstacle avoidance too, as well as quad 5 W speakers.
The GP500 does not have that many ports though, with two HDMI 2.0b ports, two USB Type-A connections, a SPDIF and an audio out for a projector that measures 260 x 267 x 183 mm. It is worth keeping in mind that while the GP500 is compatible with Google Assistant voice commands, the projector relies on the older Android TV 9.0 platform. Currently, BenQ has announced US pricing but not a firm release date in any region. The BenQ GP500 will be available in the US for US$1,799; pricing for other regions has not been confirmed yet.
