The ACC puts a top-15 battle on the court as 13th-ranked North Carolina (9-3) hits the road to take on seventh-ranked Virginia Tech (11-2) today. Both teams have started off with a bit of a stumble in conference play with the Tar Heels losing their only game so far and the Hokies losing two out of three games in conference. During non-conference play, the Tar Heels really challenged themselves by playing four ranked teams overall and going 2-2 in those games, which were all mostly competitive games from start to finish. The Hokies have had a bit of a softer schedule only playing one ranked team so far.

In their one game against a ranked team, the Hokies fell to fifth-ranked Notre Dame 63-52 at home after a disastrous final period where they were outscored 23-9 to give up the game.
The Hokies have lost two of their last three games, their only two losses of the season, by a combined 16 points after a strong 10-game winning streak to get the season started.
They are led this season by senior Elizabeth Kitley with 18.7 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.7 assists per game on 54.6% shooting from the field. She controlled the paint and paced the team on both ends.
For the Tar Heels, they have a quartet of double-figure scorers that pace the offense and allow them to compete with any team in the country.
