On a seven-game, 16-day road trip, the Montreal Canadiens skate into the nation’s capital looking to snap a four-game losing streak as they take on the Washington Capitals in a Saturday matinee. The Caps have won 10 of their last 12 games, vaulting themselves into the top half of the Eastern Conference playoff picture as the season nears the midway point. Today is the second of three meetings between the clubs this season with Washington taking game one of the series in mid-October 3-1 as the Caps scored all three goals in the second period led by a TJ Oshie goal and assist.

37-year-old winger Alex Ovechkin leads the Capitals in goals and points and is on pace for his tenth career 50-goal season as he now sits 91 goals behind Wayne Gretzky for the most all-time. Ovechkin has three goals and an assist in his last three games and has 19 points in fourteen December games.
Despite the 1-4 start to this road trip, Montreal has had more success away from home as it is 8-9-3 on the road this season versus a 7-9-0 home record.
Canadiens center Nick Suzuki leads the team with 31 points but has been shut out in six of his last seven games.
Washington has won five of the last six in this series with Montreal’s lone win coming in February of 2020 on Ben Chiarot’s overtime winner.
