Before the NHL went on its holiday break, no team was playing better than the Carolina Hurricanes (22-6-6). The Hurricanes have won a current league-best eight games in a row, are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games and have earned at least one point in 14 consecutive games. After four days off, they’ll try to pick that momentum back up at home when they host the Chicago Blackhawks (8-20-4) on Tuesday. The Blackhawks have some momentum as well. They won their last game before the holiday break, tying a season-high with five goals in a 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
