After scoring a hat trick last Tuesday to become only the third player in NHL history to score 800 career goals, Alexander Ovechkin has been held scoreless in his last three games. Tonight, the legend again takes to the ice with a chance to pass Hall of Famer Gordie Howe for second all-time in goals as the Washington Capitals visit the Canadian capital to take on the Ottawa Senators. Washington comes into tonight with wins in seven of its last eight games and is looking to avenge a 5-2 road loss at Ottawa back on Oct. 20. The Senators have dropped two-straight games after winning six of eight games to start December.

Ovechkin, in his 18th season, is on pace for his 10th 50-goal season despite being held scoreless in his last three games. The 37-year-old center scored seven goals in the previous four games to push him within striking distance of moving up the career goals list, now needing 95 goals to pass Wayne Gretzky for the all-time mark.
The Senators have four skaters with double-digit goals and assists led by winger Brady Tkachuk’s team-high 23 assists and 36 points. Tkachuk had 11 points in 10 games in December, including his 100th career goal in a 3-2 overtime win against the New York Rangers on Dec. 2.
Ottawa owns the NHL’s fourth-best power-play unit scoring on 28.5% of opportunities with the man advantage despite being held without a power-play goal in six of its last seven games.
