Arguably the most remarkable thing about Henderson’s ascension to the big leagues was the fact that he absolutely destroyed major league fastballs and became one of the team’s best fastball hitters almost instantly. Giants pull out of Correa deal, Mets swoop in
Honestly, I thought this MLB offseason had plenty of drama and enticing storylines, but this one takes the cake. The San Francisco Giants and All Star shortstop Carlos Correa agreed to a 13 year, $350 million megadeal last week and seemingly, all that was left was the dotting of i’s and crossing of t’s. What could go wrong?
Well, everything apparently. Just before Correa was to be introduced to the media in his first press conference as a Giant, the deal was off due to concerns with his physical. No sooner did that happen than the New York Mets swooping in to offer a 12 year, $315 million contract. When factoring in Correa’s deal in addition to the plethora of other moves the Mets have made, owner Steve Cohen is looking at a payroll bill that will push half a billion dollars after luxury taxes. If only the other owners were like him.
