CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following additions to the Major League Spring Training roster:
Signed LHP CALEB BARAGAR and RHP CALEB SIMPSON to Minor League contracts with non-roster invitations to Major League Spring Training camp.
Baragar (BAIR-uh-ger), 28, appeared in 49 games with the San Francisco Giants during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, posting a Major League ERA of 2.78 (1GS, 2SV, 45.1IP, 36H, 14ER, 35SO, .222 aug). The Jenison, MI native spent the 2022 season in AAA Reno (3-1, 5.51 ERA, 43 games) in the Arizona system after being claimed on waivers from the Giants on March 21. He owns a career Minor League ERA of 4.21 in 156 games/75 starts (468.1IP, 431H, 219ER, 429SO) since his ninth-round selection by the Giants in the 2016 MLB Draft out of Indiana University.
Simpson, 31, spent the majority of his professional career in the San Francisco Giants system (2013-19), spending 2020 with the Cubs (NRI) before latching on with the Red Sox starting in Summer Camp 2020 through the 2022 season. He split the 2022 season between AA Portland and AAA Worcester. He owns a professional Minor League ERA of 4.20 across 164 relief appearances (199.1IP, 143H, 93ER, 254SO, .198 avg) since debuting in 2013. The Norman, OK native was selected by SF in the 21St round of the 2013 MLB Draft and converted to a pitcher after catching at Seminole State College (OK).
