Patrice Bergeron had himself quite a Saturday.
The Boston Bruins celebrated their captain for reaching 1,000 NHL points with a special pregame ceremony at TD Garden.
Prior to the ceremony, Dec. 17, 2022, was declared “Patrice Bergeron Day” in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by Governor Charlie Baker, who presented Bergeron with the proclamation.
The Bruins sported custom Bergeron T-shirts and gifted the veteran forward a custom cake before their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Bergeron recorded his 1,000th NHL point with an assist Brad Marchand‘s goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Nov. 21.
During the ceremony, Bergeron was joined by his wife, Stephanie, and their three kids, Zach, Victoria and Noah, on the ice.
The Bruins aired a tribute video that featured clips of Bergeron’s milestone points throughout his career.
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney presented Bergeron with the commemorative golden stick in honor of the accomplishment. The Bruins also gifted Bergeron with a check for $37,000 for him to donate to a charity of his choice.
Marchand and David Krejci presented Bergeron with a custom engraved Rolex and an engraved bottle of Dom Perignon.
The ceremony ended with Phil Esposito, Johnny Bucyk and Ray Bourque, the only other players in Bruins history to reach the milestone, welcoming Bergeron to the 1,000 point club.
“Hi Patrice, congratulations and welcome to the club,” Bourque said in the video. “I tell you, it’s been amazing to watch you from Day One and what you’ve accomplished so far, and there’s a lot more to come buddy.”
