Report: Giants in contact with Swanson’s camp about contract originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Giants are reportedly in contact with one of the top shortstops available on the free agent market.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported Tuesday, citing sources, that San Francisco has contacted Dansby Swanson’s camp about a potential contract.

Swanson, believed to be the second-best shortstop on the market, could be a fallback plan for the Giants should they come up short in their reported pursuit of superstar Carlos Correa.

After being named to his first MLB All-Star team in 2022, Swanson arguably had the best season of his career, hitting .277/.329/.447 with 25 home runs and 96 RBI in 162 games for the Atlanta Braves.

Correa hit .291/.366/.467 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI in 136 games for the Minnesota Twins in 2022.

Although Swanson and Correa are both 28 years old, Swanson’s market value, according to spotrac.com, is projected to be around $24.8 million, compared to Correa’s $31.7 million.

If the Giants miss out on Correa, Swanson should provide San Francisco with a more affordable backup plan.
