Top MLB Third Baseman, Who May Command $200 Million in 2023, Reveals His Desire to Retire With the Boston Red Sox

Handling star players during free agency do not represent the recent forte of nine-time World Champions, Boston Red Sox. The examples of Mookie Betts in 2020, and Xander Bogaerts during the present offseason are evocative of the same. Notably, while playing for the Red Sox, Bogaerts and Betts led them to multiple glories.

And now, as chaos continues for the Red Sox this offseason, another rising star is facing the similar situation before entering his free agency.

Rafael Devers, who plays as Boston’s regular third baseman, made his MLB debut in 2017, with Boston. At the end of the MLB 2023 season, he will enter his free agency and is now in line with a big contract. Not to forget that he was also named as a finalist for the Hank Aaron Award and All-MLB team.

Will the Boston Red Sox extend Rafael Devers’ contract?

MLB insider Hector Gomez recently interviewed Rafael Devers on his radio show. And in the interview, the third-baseman and 2018 World Champion illustrated his undying love for Boston. He also spoke about how he wishes to spend his entire career in Fenway Park.

Hector Gomez talks about an interview with Rafael Devers, who loves Boston, and “wishes to end his career as a #RedSox.” He adds, “I think if they make him an offer based on his quality as a player, he’ll stay on the team and his wish to be a Red Sox for life will come true.”

In another tweet, Gomez added, “Rafael Devers loves Boston. He is very happy with the support he has always received from the fans. I honestly think that team executives should value a player who has that feeling towards the team and its fans. He deserves it.”

With only a year left in his free agency, Devers could now be looking towards a $200 million contract. And only time will tell if the Red Sox will be willing to go all the way for him.

The BoSox splurged $32 million, but was it really worth it?

Being one of the most disappointing teams in the recent MLB season, the Red Sox sprung out $32 million on former Dodgers and Braves closer Kenley Jansen. Jansen, who’s recorded 1,107 strikeouts, and 391 saves at 2.46 signed a two-year contract with Boston.

Fans as well didn’t regard Jansen as a closer worth $16 million per year. Moreover, 2022 was a relatively poor season for Jansen, and with such a massive contract in his bag, Fenway Park will hold multiple expectations from the righty.
