NEW YORK – Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompsonwho shared the League lead with eight wins (8-2-0) and compiled a 2.88 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in 10 games, has been named the NHL’s “Rookie of the Month” for November.
Thompson edged Seattle Kraken center Matty Beniers (5-7-12 in 12 GP), New Jersey Devils teammates Akira Schmidt (4-0-0, 1.24 GAA, .953 SV%) and Fabian Zetterlund (3-7-10 in 14 GP), Buffalo Sabers right wing Jack Quinn (3-6-9 in 11 GP), and Arizona Coyotes left wing Matias Maccelli (1-8-9 in 10 GP) for the honor.
Thompson, who made at least 25 saves in eight of his 10 starts, became the first rookie goaltender to earn eight or more wins in a calendar month since Elvis Merzlikins with the Columbus Blue Jackets in January 2020 (also 8-2-0 in 10 GP).
Thompson (6-0-0 in 6 GP) also became the sixth rookie netminder in NHL history to compile at least six road victories in a calendar month and the first since Jonathan Quick with the Los Angeles Kings in February 2009 (6-1-0 in 7 GP).
The 25-year-old Thompson, who signed with Vegas as an undrafted free agent in July 2020, has appeared in 16 total games this season, ranking among the top goaltenders (rookie or veteran) in wins (t 2nd; 12), shutouts (t-3rd; 2), saves (t-7th; 454), goals-against average (8th; 2.44), save percentage (9th; .921), shots against (9th; 493) and minutes played (9th; 959) :33).
Thompson is the first player in Golden Knights history to earn “Rookie of the Month” honors and joins the Ottawa Senators center Shane Pinto (October) as a recipient this season.
