Princess Mary was put in a difficult spot when her birth country Australia played against her home Denmark in the World Cup.
In preparation for the game on Thursday, Mary’s husband Crown Prince Frederik was seen playing soccer, in the Danish team’s merchandise, with their two sons, princes Christian and Vincent.

In a series of photos, the royals were seen kicking a soccer ball around and smiling in front of the goals they had set up at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.
The images were published on the Danish royal family’s social media before Australia’s Socceroos beat Denmark 1-0 in Al-Wakrah, Qatar.
Many followers have speculated on Mary’s potential feelings towards the game.
Half Danish half Australian
“Aussie, Aussie, Aussie… I wonder if HRH Princess Mary is quietly happy😂😂” one joked.
“Must be tough for the children, being half Danish and half Australian!” Come on Aussies!!!” a second wrote.
A third asked for “a video of Princess Mary celebrating that Leckie goal”, in reference to Mathew Leckie’s goal that secured Australia’s win.
Born in Tasmania, Mary, 50, spent more than half of her life living in various Australian states.
She moved to Denmark permanently in 2002 when she was 30 years old.
The pair met during a night out while Frederik was in Sydney for the 2000 Olympics.
Introducing himself simply as “Fred”, the then-Mary Donaldson was unaware that the man she was talking to was the heir to the Danish throne.
The couple fell in love during Frederik’s “secret” visits to Australia before she married into the Danish royal family in 2004.
