A plane carrying 53 rescue dogs headed for an animal shelter has crashed into a golf course in Wisconsin.

The transport plane bringing the animals to the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) made the emergency landing on the Waukesha County golf course on Tuesday.
HAWS said in a statement no life-threatening injuries were sustained by the three people or 53 dogs on the flight.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Nicholas Wenzel said the aircraft sustained significant damage and came to a rest on the third hole of the golf course.
He said the sheriff’s department was assisted by Lakes Fire and Rescue, the Department of Natural Resources, HAWS, Crites Field staff and Western Lakes Golf Course staff.
He said the incident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
HAWS said on social media the flight was a planned transport, to bring at-risk, adoptable dogs from southern shelters to HAWS and several partner shelters.
“HAWS regularly welcomes these life-saving transports,” the post said.
“All the animals were triaged at HAWS by staff veterinarians.
“Some remained at HAWS while others went to our partner shelters.”
The organization has already exceeded a fundraising goal to cover additional medical costs for the animals.
The dogs are expected to be placed up for adoption as planned in the coming days.
