AMD’s Mendocino Ryzen 7020 lineup of processors that combines the Zen 2 core architecture with RDNA 2 graphics is now featured on the latest Acer Aspire 3 budget laptops available for less than US$400. The new A315-24P-R75B models sport a 15.6-inch 1080p @60 Hz IPS screen and the chassis is fairly thin with a 0.74-inch profile weighing 3.97 lbs. Otherwise the specs are modest in order to justify the price tag. Even the included Windows 11 Home edition is limited to the barebones S Mode.
The version powered by AMD’s Ryzen 3 7320U has an MSRP of US$399, but it is now available on Amazon for only US$387.92. The R3 7320U offers 4 cores and 8 threads clocked at max 4.1 GHz plus a basic Radeon 610M iGPU. Apparently, there also is a version featuring the advanced R5 7520U that has the same core configuration with higher max clocks set to 4.3 GHz, yet this is not on sale for now. The iGPU is included only for AV1 video decoding, as its 2 CUs clocked at 1.9 GHz can barely be used for light gaming.
RAM is limited to 8 GB LPDDR5 (soldered) and there is a 128 GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD that can be replaced with higher capacity models. Other standard features include a 720p webcam, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, and port selection with 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DP video + charging), 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, headphone jack plus 1x HDMI video out.

I first stepped into the wondrous IT&C world when I was around seven years old. I was instantly fascinated by computerized graphics, whether they were from games or 3D applications like 3D Max. I’m also an avid reader of science fiction, an astrophysics aficionado, and a crypto geek. I started writing PC-related articles for Softpedia and a few blogs back in 2006. I joined the Notebookcheck team in the summer of 2017 and am currently a senior tech writer mostly covering processor, GPU, and laptop news.
