Ex-MLB Star’s Son Made a Plea to Billionaire Elon Musk and Derek Jeter Before an Eventful 2022 Season

Earlier this year, former New York Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter resigned from his top-tier role with the Miami Marlins after five years of significant transformation and growth. As the CEO, Jeter successfully managed to break the Marlins’ 18-year postseason absence.

However, in February 2022, Derek Jeter sold his 4% stake and left the Marlins’ front office.

Eight months down the line, the New York Yankees managed to register yet another postseason failure; and failed to make the World Series after getting swept by Houston Astros in the ALCS. Amidst this, fans circled back to their initial demand of making changes in the Yankees front office by firing Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman.

Balanced against that, shortly after Derek Jeter resigned from the Marlins, 9-time All-Star Gary Sheffield’s son reached his Twitter handle with an absurd request for Elon Musk.

How absurd would it be to see Elon Musk owning the New York Yankees?

A month after Derek Jeter left the Marlins, Gary Sheffield’s son, Gary Sheffield Jr. reached his Twitter handle with a unique and absurd proposition for the current owner of Twitter – Elon Musk. While replying to an Elon Musk tweet, Gary Sheffield Jr. asked Musk to purchase the New York Yankees and appoint their ex-Captain Derek Jeter as the new general manager.

He tweeted saying, “Elon buys the New York Yankees and appoints Derek Jeter as general manager.”

Notably, Gary Sheffield played in the MLB for 22 years. Over this span of time, the outfielder played for eight teams, won one World Championship Ring, and appeared on nine All-Star teams.

After being in the Pinstripes for 20 years, in 2014, Derek Jeter retired from the MLB after a long and distinguished career. He won five World Championship Rings, a Roberto Clemente Award, and two Hank Aaron awards, in 2017. Subsequently, the Yankee front office added a plaque with Derek Jeter’s name to Monument Park.

After three years, Jeter also had his name inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame with a splendid 99.75% majority. While Jeter’s accolades were archetypal of a successful career; it was his charisma and competitive attitude that made him a fan favorite across New York.
