NSW Police shared the outrageous speed on Facebook with many users joking that they didn’t know a Volkswagen Golf could go that fast.

‘That’s no driving that’s flying,’ one commented.

‘Would a Golf even reach 280km/h is the question that should be asked!,’ another wrote.

‘Does the speedo even go to 280km/h? My car would fall apart by at least the 150km/h mark,’ a third wrote.

Another user explained that with some simple modifications it would be possible for a Volkswagen Golf to reach the high speed.

‘For those who think a golf can’t do that take another look,’ they wrote.

‘A Golf R can do 270km/h top speed so a few modifications and it will easily reach 280km/h.’
