The Detroit Red Wings are coming off their most disappointing loss of the season so far, and will hope and put it in the rearview mirror when they get set to host the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.

It seemed as if the Red Wings were spooked by something when they made the trip to take on the Buffalo Sabers on Monday night. Yes, there were getting outplayed for most of the night, ending up getting outshot 46-18, but there only trailed by one after captain Dylan Larkin scored a shorthanded goal early in the third period. However, the Sabers put their swords into Detroit, scoring four times in the final seven minutes of the game, highlighted by Tage Thompson completing a hat trick, to run away with an 8-3 win.
Poor Alex Nedeljkovic was in net for all eight goals, despite stopping 38 shots in his second regulation loss of the season. The result showed that the Wings have to stop relying on goaltending to come up with big saves, and structure their lineup to hold off the opposition’s top stars.
They will see a few stars when the Capitals come to town. Washington has been alright to start the season, but have struggled against some of the better teams in the NHL. They currently have 11 points through 10 games, as the Caps lost to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, before suffering an overtime loss at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.
The Wings were only able to pull out one win against the Capitals in their three-game series in 2021-22, losing both games at LCA.
