Is today the day to believe in the Buffalo Sabres?

The Buffalo Sabers and Pittsburgh Penguins are facing off in Buffalo tonight in a big matchup for both teams. The Sabers are off to a great start this year with a record of 6-3-0, while the Penguins have been faltering as of late, dropping their last five games going 0-4-1.

The Boston Bruins beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-5 in overtime after battling back from a 5-2 deficit in the second period last night. In the second game of a back-to-back, one would have to wonder who to pick tonight betting wise the Penguins or the Sabres?

NHL Betting: Is today the day to believe in the Buffalo Sabres?

Last year, Buffalo went 2-1-0 against the Penguins during the regular season, which includes winning the only game in Buffalo. All-time, the Sabers are 45-45-17 at home against the Penguins.

The Penguins and Sabers already played each other once this season in Pittsburgh. On Oct. 7, the Penguins destroyed the Sabers 7-1 in a big statement win for the team. That was a different Penguins team compared to what we have seen last week so it will be interesting to see what happens tonight.

Fanduel has the Penguins favored in tonight’s matchup, with the spread being -1.5 in favor of Pittsburgh. The Moneyline also favored the Penguins at -115, so going into this game, I think the Sabers are the better bet to make. Buffalo has played some great hockey to start the 2022-23 NHL season, and while it might seem like this is the perfect opportunity for Pittsburgh to get back on track, I think this is Buffalo’s game to show they really are for real this year.

Tage Thompson has been terrific for Buffalo so far this season, with six goals and six assists for a team-leading 12 points. Another young player who has been great for the Sabers has to be Rasmus Dahlin, who has six goals as well this year from the blue line.
