Four Players with Caps Ties Named to NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Draft Rankings

NHL Central Scouting released their first look at the 2023 NHL Draft rankings this week. The USHL was well represented in the grading process of prospects for NHL CS with 82 players with league ties and 68 current players on the list. The Capitols help contribute to the list with two current players, one former player, and an affiliated player on the list.


The first of two Caps representatives, Nick Fascia, is the lone Madison defender on the list. The Blackwood, New Jersey, native, is playing in his first season with the Capitols. Through his first eight games of the season, Fascia has recorded three points. The Penn State commit received a “C” in the initial rankings from NHL Central Scouting, which projects him to be a 4th, 5th, or 6th round pick.

Landen Gunderson is the second of two Capitols current players on the list. The forward hailing from Maple Grove, Minnesota, is also in his first full season with the Caps. Gunderson has registered three assists through the first eight games of the season. He is committed to play hockey at Western Michigan, and similar to Fascia, he received a “C” in the initial rankings from NHL CS, which projects him to be a 4th, 5th, or 6th round pick.

The Capitols have an alum. on the list as well with Luke Mittelstadt finding himself on the NHL CS list. Mittelstadt is currently a freshman at the University of Minnesota. The former Capitol has played in seven games this season for the Gophers recording three assists and has a +3 rating to his name. Mittelstadt has also received a “C” ranking from NHL CS, which projects him to be a 4th, 5th, or 6th round pick.

Colton Jamieson represents the Capitols affiliates on the NHL Central Scouting list. Jamieson, a defender from Hudson, Wisconsin, has split time over the past handful of seasons between Cretin-Derham Hall high school in Minnesota and Team Wisconsin AAA. Jamieson also received a “C” ranking on the list, which projects him to be a 4th, 5th, or 6th. round pick.
