Dubnyk retires after 12 NHL seasons

Longtime NHL goaltender Devan Dubnyk is hanging up his pads.

The 36-year-old announced his retirement from professional hockey Saturday.

Dubnyk appeared in 542 NHL games across 12 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, Arizona Coyotes, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, and Colorado Avalanche. He finished his career with 253 wins, a .914 save percentage, and 33 shutouts.

The 6-foot-6 netminder was best known for his six seasons with the Wild. In 2014-15, he won the Masterton Trophy, finished third in Vezina voting, fourth in Hart voting, and was a second-team All-Star after posting a .929 save percentage and a 2.07 goals-against average in 58 games. Dubnyk never posted a save percentage lower than .913 in his next four seasons in Minnesota.

Dubnyk ranks second behind Niklas Backstrom in wins (177) and shutouts (23) in Wild franchise history.

The Regina, Saskatchewan, product was also stellar during his five seasons with the Oilers, who drafted him 14th overall in 2004. He recorded a .917 save percentage over a three-year stretch in Edmonton – it just happened to come during some of the Darkest days of the franchise’s decade-long playoff drought.

Dubnyk played his final NHL campaign in 2021 with the Sharks and Avalanche. He appeared in four games with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers last season.
