Justin Fields looked like a potential franchise quarterback in the Bears upset of the Patriots on Monday. He’ll need to continue looking the part when Chicago, on a short week, travels to Dallas at 1 pm ET Sunday at AT&T Stadium on FOX.
With Dak Prescott back in the saddle for Dallas, the Cowboys are favored by almost double-digits. It’s a big spread, and it makes sense to a point.
The Bears have been near-inept offensively, but they changed up the game plan in Foxboro with 11 designed runs for Fields, more than doubling his previous career high of five.
The Cowboys have faced two other run-thriving quarterbacks this year in Daniel Jones and Jalen Hurts. Against Jones, the Cowboys allowed him to rush for 79 yards on nine attempts. Against Hurts, they limited him to 27 yards on nine attempts.
But Hurts gets it done with his arm, too, and even Jones does more than Fields has been able to do in his young career so far.
It’s a step in the right direction for Fields and the Bears offense, as the 33 points are a season-high, and the 390 yards on offense are the second-most this season – behind 391 the previous week against Washington.
But good vibes and signs aside, they must go into Dallas to take on the No. 2 defense based on DVOA and No. 3 team overall in team DVOA.
With Micah Parson, Trevon Diggs, and co., Fields will have his work cut out for him. And with Prescott back under center for the Cowboys, the Bears’ surprisingly good pass defense will be tested for the third time this season (Kirk Cousins and Aaron Rodgers).
