Daily NHL Betting Guide – 10/23/22

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Lines site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

The model has been running hot this week and it likes three more underdogs tonight but only one of them seems playable. The Blackhawks have been very good defensively this season and that’s a good recipe for an upset. They have the sixth-lowest 5v5 xGA and Alex Stalock has been outstanding in his only two outings so far. He’s stopped 46 of 47 shots (.979 SV%). Today they face a Seattle team that made us a lot of money with a win over the Colorado Avalanche (+228) on Friday. However, this sets up as a bit of a trap game for them. Last on their mini road-trip, after a huge win in Colorado, and heading home to take on the red-hot Sabers on Tuesday. Given how solid the Blackhawks have been defensively, I think it’s ok to take a stab with them here on a quiet Sunday in the NHL.

0.5 Unit Bet: CHI +129

Pass:

I’m passing on NYI (+171) and CBJ (+226) because both of them are on the tail-end of a back-to-back, with their second string goalies expected to start, versus very good teams that didn’t. play last night.
