Tech Places Fourth at Penn State National Open – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – Liz Galarza and James Cragin led the Georgia Tech cross country teams to fourth-place finishes at the Penn State National Open on Friday. The Jackets outperformed ACC opponent and nationally ranked Syracuse.

Galarza was the top runner for the women’s team, placing third with a time of 20:33.0 in the 6K race. Cragin ran a time of 25:11.6 to finish first for the Jackets and seventh overall in the men’s 5.2 mile.

The women’s group had two runners in the top 10 and five in the top 50 finishers. The men’s team finished with two Jackets in the top 20 and six in the top 50.

Helena Lindsay rounded out the top 10 for Tech in the women’s 6K with an eighth-place time of 20:43.2. Kate Jortberg was the 21st runner to cross the finish line, running a 6K time of 21:11.4. Mary Brady finished 34th (21:35.9) and Mary Kathryn Knott finished 40th (21:42.6).

Zach Jaeger was the second Jacket to cross the finish line in the men’s 5.2 mile with a 16th-place time of 25:11.6. Devin Wade followed behind Jaeger, finishing in 23rd with a time of 25:59.5. Chris Charono came in 29th with a time of 26:05.1 and John Higginbotham finished 41st in the race (26:21.2).

The Jackets will continue their weekend of competition on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Berry Invite.
