No Cap Issues Proving Beneficial to Red Wings; NHL Moves and Rumors

The Detroit Red Wings don’t have any issues getting under the NHL salary cap. That fact appears to make them somewhat unique among the NHL’s 32 franchises

As NHL clubs were whittling down to the league-mandated 23-player roster on Monday, some teams were discovering that the last cut is the deepest.

The Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers, for instance, were left with just the minimum requirement of 20 players, since both teams are hard up against the cap. Cap issues were forcing the Panthers to stall plans to reunite the Staal brothers.

Defenseman Marc, a Red Wings player last season, made the squad. However, his brother Eric was released from his PTO. However, Eric’s gear remained in his stall in the Florida locker room.
