At least six mobile phones were recovered in three separate cases from the inmates of Ludhiana Central Jail during a special checking on Tuesday. .
Assistant superintendent of jail Sarup Chand said during checking, he nabbed an inmate, Ajit Singh of Swarn Singh Nagar, Amritsar, and recovered a mobile phone from his possession, while another mobile phone was found abandoned in the barrack.
In the second case, assistant superintendent of jail Suraj Mal nabbed two inmates—Gurmeet Singh and Surjit Singh—and recovered two mobile phones from their possession.
While in the third case, Mal nabbed Gurmeet Singh of Khanna and recovered a mobile phone from his possession, while another phone was found abandoned in the barracks.
The Division number 7 police lodged three separate FIRs under Sections 52 A (1) of the Prison Act against the accused.

Chief secy asks officials to step up laying broadband network in UP villages

500 saplings planted at civil hospital in Ludhiana
As many as 500 saplings of various varieties were planted during a tree plantation drive at the civil hospital on Tuesday. The drive— led by senior medical officers Dr. Deepika Goyal (civil hospital), Dr. Savita (mother and child hospital) and Dr. Hatinderder Sood (ART)— was sponsored by Samvedna Trust. Sharing details, in-charge of the trust, Jajpreet Singh, said so far 10,500 samples have been planted in and around the civil hospital.

Cops return stolen property worth ₹1.42 crore to owners
Police commissioner Bipinkumar Singh has asked residents to cooperate to prevent property offenses. Navi Mumbai police on Tuesday returned ₹1,42,26,503 worth of stolen properties that included jewellery, cash, vehicles, laptops, mobile phones etc. Out of the entire amount, ₹82,54,942 was jewellery, cash and other valuable articles. Vehicles and other properties worth ₹59,71,561 were also returned. Prasad Vaidya, 55, who got back his wife’s jewelery worth ₹2.75 lakh and his son’s tablet, was ecstatic.

UPPCL asked to submit report on fast running of smart meters in 7 days
The electricity regulator has directed the UP Power Corporation Ltd to submit a detailed report on the fresh complaints about the hi-tech smart meters a number of which have been found running fast in some cities under the Lucknow discom. As per the Lucknow discom’s test report, of the 1911 smart meters tested recently in Lucknow, Barabanki and Bareilly, 84 were found running fast while six were slow.
