Calangute Police arrested four persons in a mobile theft case and recovered mobiles worth Rs 2.5 lakh.

The main accused Mahesh Suresh Tupkar of Parra and Jahidul Latif Mondal residing in Calangute but native of West Bengal were arrested first and after their interrogation two others – Myran Viegas of Taleigao and Raju Rathod of Nagao but native of Hubli were also apprehended.

According to the complainant Rohan Menezes of Bengaluru, Karnataka, some unknown persons stole his iPhone worth Rs 80,000 from an open place in Baga, Calangute.

Calangute Police formed a special team to investigate the matter and trace the accused involved in the case.

The stolen mobile phone was kept on technical surveillance and after developing reliable information the two accused who were habitually involved in theft cases — Mahesh Tupkar and Jahidul Mondal — were traced and placed under arrest.

On their interrogation, the duo admitted their involvement in the theft and confessed that they had given the mobile phone to Myran Viegas and Raju Rathod who were also arrested.

During the course of investigation, nine other mobile phones were recovered from the accused all worth Rupees 2.50 lakh.

The Calangute Police members consisted of Head Constable Vishal Gawas, Satish Sawant and Vidhyanand Amonkar and PC Amir Garad, Vijay Naik, Pravin Chodankar, Ganpat Tiloji, Gaurav Chodankar, Pritesh Kinlekar and driver Manoj Shinde under overall supervision of Calangute PI Dattaguru Sawant.
