2022 Year in Review | Meet the top free agents in India’s tech & startup sector

As startups and tech firms began to restructure businesses amid an uncertain funding environment, several top-level executives exited companies and yet to take on new gigs.

In collaboration with executive search firm Longhouse Consulting, ETtech put together an annual list of high-profile executives who are on the market as we pull the curtains down on 2022.

WhatsApp’s India head Abhijit Bose, who quit shortly after Meta India chief Ajit Mohan resigned to move on to Snap, is currently taking a break following which the founder of fintech firm Ezetap is expected to “rejoin the entrepreneurial world”.

The exits at publicly listed food-tech company Zomato towards the end of the year also saw key executives including cofounder Mohit Gupta and head of new initiatives Rahul Ganjoo leave the firm.

Abhishek Rajan, who had been with fintech platform Paytm since November 2015 working across various verticals, exited the company in June this year from the position of chief operating officer of debt recovery platform Paytm CreditMate, and has been on a career break since then.

Another Paytm executive Rohit Chhapolia senior vice president, advertising products and business, quit the company in September, and is learned to be building a new product. Further, Sharat Dhall, who was COO at PolicyBazaar, quit in April, while Ola Cars CEO Arun Sirdeshmukh also resigned from his position this year. Both are yet to take up a new assignment.

Among the other top free agents this year are Manish Ansari, former BetterPlace chief business officer; Apratim Majumder, former CMO of MyGlamm; Sachin Shenoy, cofounder and chief technology officer at HealthifyMe; Razorpay senior director Badri Vasudevan.
