We have a new leader for the 2022 NFL MVP award as we push past Week 14 of the regular season. Here’s what you need to know with the latest odds from BetMGM in the race for the league’s top individual honor:
(The odds are live, so they can shift at any point.)
Top players to watch
QB Jalen Hurts, Eagles
Hurts ranked tied for 15th with the Raiders’ Derek Carr and the 49ers’ Deebo Samuel when the 2022 NFL MVP opening odds were first released at +4000. And now Hurts has jumped to the top of the charts for the first time this season. The Eagles quarterback dazzled once again in Week 14 with 217 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions resulting in a 109.2 passer rating. He also added 77 rushing yards and a TD in the team’s win over the Giants.
Hurts has vaulted to No. 1 in overall passer rating at 108.4. Since Week 10, Hurts has thrown for 10 TDs and rushed for four TDs while only throwing one interception in that span. He has 22 TD passes, 10 rushing TDs and only three interceptions in 2022. Add that the Eagles are 12-1 and it makes sense that Hurts has jumped to the top of the heap.
The Eagles will travel to Chicago to face the Bears in Week 15.
QB Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs
Mahomes pulled off one of his no-look passes in Week 14 against the Broncos, which turned into a 56-yard TD pass to Jerick McKinnon. He threw two more TDs in the win in Denver but also launched three interceptions. It’s the third time in Mahomes’ career that he threw three picks in one game. He still leads the NFL in passing yards (4,160), passing TDs (33) and Expected Points Added per dropback via TruMedia (0.30). Mahomes’ erratic Week 14, Hurts’ continued dynamic play and the Eagles’ record has allowed Hurts to leapfrog Mahomes for the first time this season.
The Chiefs will travel to Houston to face the Texans in Week 15.
QB Joe Burrow, Bengals
The Bengals quarterback improved his odds from +800 after Week 13. While it still seems like a two-man race, there’s no doubt that Burrow is making a push on a weekly basis as Cincinnati’s winning ways continue. Burrow only threw for 239 yards with two TDs and one pick resulting in an 85.3 passer rating (third lowest single-game rating in 2022) as the Bengals topped the Browns in Week 14.
But the Bengals are now 9-4 and have won five consecutive games. Burrow ranks second in passing TDs (27), third in passing yards (3,685), sixth in EPA per dropback (0.13) and sixth in passer rating (102.4).
The Bengals will travel to Tampa to face the Buccaneers in Week 15.
QB Josh Allen, Bills
Allen’s odds are fading after being +1800 after Week 13. The Bills quarterback threw for only 147 yards and one TD in blustery conditions during the team’s Week 14 win over the Jets. He also added one rushing TD. Allen ranks third in passing TDs (26) and EPA per dropback (0.20), but he’s only 10th in passer rating (95.5). From Week 8-14, Allen has only produced a single-game passer rating of 100.0 or higher twice.
The Bills still sit no. 1 in the AFC playoff race with the tiebreaker over the Chiefs with the head-to-head win. It hasn’t always been pretty for Allen, though, in the last seven weeks, which has led to Allen’s fall in the race for the MVP.
