GOLFER OF THE YEAR
Ella Wong
Hawken, senior
Wong is deep in the conversation as far as the best female golfer in News-Herald coverage area history, and her swansong run as a senior nets her one final honor as 2022 News-Herald girls golfer of the year. Wong was Division II state medalist for the second straight season, with a pair of 76s for a 152, good for a one-shot win as the Hawks were sixth as a team at the Ohio State Gray course. Wong, who was also third at district (79) and a sectional champion (77), and former Geneva standout Danielle Nicholson (2011 DI) are the only News-Herald coverage area girls golf state individual medalists all-time. This is also the fourth time Wong has been News-Herald girls golfer of the year, making her the fifth student-athlete in the modern “one-MVP” era of News-Herald all-stars to win the top honor all four years in a high school career.
