2020 NBA re-draft has Sixers taking Josh Green with Tyrese Maxey gone

  • by

The Philadelphia 76ers lucked into a star player in the 2020 NBA draft when Tyrese Maxey fell into their laps at 21 overall. Maxey fell because of some concerns around his 3-point shooting while at Kentucky, but all of that has been put to rest while with the Sixers where the young man has been able to put all of that to rest.

In his second NBA season, Maxey averaged 17.5 points and 4.3 assists while shooting 42.7% from deep and playing multiple positions due to the initial Ben Simmons saga and then the addition of James Harden. Because of what he has been able to do out on the floor, Maxey has leapt in re-drafts for 2020.

Bleacher Report has Maxey going No. 5 overall in their 2020 re-draft with Josh Green, who originally went 18 to the Dallas Mavericks, going 21 to Philadelphia:

He’s been limited to 14.0 minutes per game for his career, and he doesn’t get many shots up when he’s out there, but Josh Green is already a plus defender. His 35.9 three-point percentage (albeit on just 78 attempts) is encouraging.

If he becomes a consistently above-average outside shooter while maintaining his commitment to the defensive end, Green has the chance to develop into an ideal fifth starter for a team with plenty of scoring and creation at the other four spots.

It makes sense that Maxey would go early to No. 5 considering what he has been able to accomplish at this level. He has been incredible and is a prime candidate to make an All-Star appearance in 2023.

As for Green, he has the potential to be one of the top shooters, but he needs some playing time. Considering out of the 2020 draft, he would be playing next to Simmons, maybe that could have helped him develop a bit more with shooting at a premium in Philadelphia.
