ZOTAC shows GeForce RTX 4090 with … GA102 GPU (pin compatibility confirmed?)

ZOTAC RTX 4090 presented with GA102 GPU

A day after the launch of RTX 40 “Ada” series, some interesting details are being uncovered.

NVIDIA AIC partners are reluctant to share details on RTX 40 board designs. NVIDIA clearly has some embargoes in place for now, which is typically the case before the product is reviewed. For this reason, we have not seen any RTX 4090 board design yet and no real pictures of AD102 GPU are available.

Interestingly, ZOTAC does show their board in a quick preview of their AMP Extreme AIRO, the flagship RTX 4090 model from this company. What is even more intriguing is that the demo shows an entirely different GPU, the GA102 from the RTX 30 “Ampere” series.

Rather than just blur this part out or hide the GPU altogether, ZOTAC is confirming that their RTX 4090 features GA102-350 GPU in this demo (not for the end product). This might be a confirmation of some early RTX 40 rumors that the RTX 3090 Ti was a test vehicle for the new series. In some early stages, board partners were supposedly using GA102 with 450W BIOSes for RTX 40 development.

With new cards that are supposedly using very similar board designs, the GPU may in fact be pin compatible with AD102. This would explain how ZOTAC marketing department might have missed that they are actually showing a wrong GPU here.
