Warrington PGA golf pros organize event to remember wives

THREE of Warrington’s golf pros are taking to the course to organize a charity classic in memory of two of the pros’ wives.

Freddy Valenti, Bobby Young, and Graham Cox are using their love of golf to fundraise for charities close to their hearts.

Both Bobby and Graham lost their wives – Claire and Sheena – over the past 18 months, and are turning their heartbreaking experiences into something positive by fundraising for their chosen causes.

Bobby will be raising money for Bowel Cancer UK, and Graham has chosen CAFT (Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, Altrincham).

Freddy grew up with Bobby – from Sankey – and Graham – from Grappenhall – and took part in a ‘Miles for Claire’ charity walk at Delamere Forest over the summer, and realized that they could come together and organize a charity golf event to fundraise, too.

The ‘Warrington Charity Golf Classic’ is set to become an annual event in the golfing calendar and will be held this year on Wednesday, October 5.

Freddy already has 34 teams of four players registered and is hoping to raise £5,000 or more for the chosen charities.

The event will feature some of golf’s biggest YouTube stars, including Rick Shiels, Peter Finch and Matt Fryer.

Freddy said: “I haven’t set a target but looking at what we have got so far I’m hoping for over £5,000 on the day but this is to be a regular feature in the golfing calendar every year.

“My plan is to make it a two-day event at Warrington Golf Club and Lymm Golf Club next autumn, but there’s a bit of work to do yet.”

The ‘Warrington Charity Golf Classic’ is taking place at Warrington Golf Club in Appleton on Wednesday, October 5, and will be raising money for Bowel Cancer UK and CAFT.
