Tuley’s Takes Today: Sunday recaps, updated MLB/NFL stats, Monday Best Bets 8/29 – VSiN Exclusive News – News

Sunday was pretty much a letdown after the excitement of Saturday’s 2022 debut of college football and just the last 2 NFL preseason games.

Personally, I did buy a washer and dryer from a friend of mine and he helped me install them, so it wasn’t a total wash. The day was more of a disappointment as we lost our Best Bet on the Giants 1st 5 + 100 at the Twins as the Giants tease us by taking a 2-1 lead in the 4th and also tying it 3-3 in the top of the 5th before losing the bet 8-3, and then the Guardians looked like they would give us a push with our 2nd play as they were tied 0-0 with the Mariners going into the bottom of the 5th and lost that 3-0. The highlight of the day was appearing with Greg Peterson on “The Lookahead” on Sunday night (15 minutes into the show if listening on the archive) as we recapped the weekend of college and pro football as well as baseball, and gave our 1st 5 picks below for Monday.

Sunday’s recaps

NFL: In Sunday’s wrapping up of Preseason Week 3 and the whole preseason, the Jets (-3.5) beat the Giants 31-27 (flew Over betting total of 39.5 points) and the Steelers (-6.5) beat the Lions 19-9 (stayed way Under 40.5) as both won and covered as home favourites. Over/Unders split 1-1.

More NFL: Faves finished 12-4 SU and 10-5-1 ATS in Preseason Week 3. Home teams dominated 15-1 SU and 13-2-1 ATS. Unders led 9-6-1. OVERALL IN PRESEASON, faves finished 30-17 SU with 2 PKs and led 24-20-3 ATS. Home teams led 30-18 SU and 28-17-3 ATS (62.2 percent). Overs led 28-20-1 (58.3 percent).

MLB: Dogs went 8-6 for the 2nd straight day on Sunday with Rays-Red Sox closing pick-’em. The biggest upsets were by the Rockies (+ 280 at Mets), Angels (+ 216 at Blue Jays), Pirates (+ 210 at Phillies), A’s (+ 181 vs. Yankees) and Royals (+ 175 vs. Padres). Home teams led 8-7. Overs also 8-7.

More MLB: Faves lead 1,130-753 SU (60 percent) on the season with 28 pick-’ems (faves usually win around 59 percent; still ahead of pace; gap had been narrowing but now back to 60 percent). Home teams lead 1,010-900 (52.9 percent, usually closer to 54 percent but on the rise). Unders lead 938-870-100 (51.9 percent).

Monday’s Takes

Diamondbacks 1st 5 + 145 vs. Phillies: Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner isn’t as good as Philly’s Ranger Suarez (although I don’t think Suarez should be this big of a fave), but this is an anti-swagger play against the Phillies after they had their 6-game winning streak snapped on Sunday and we often teams like this have a letdown in this spot (look to see if they rest some starters). And we also like the D-backs + 165 for the full game.

Pirates 1st 5 TBD at Brewers: This game was still off the board early Monday morning because Pittsburgh still hadn’t named a starter yet, but it’s the opposite of the above game as the Pirates are a swagger play after snapping their 7-game losing streak in that same win over the Phillies. Milwaukee starter Corbin Burnes also isn’t in the best form as he allowed 7 runs in 3 2/3 innings in his last start against the Dodgers.

Good luck today (and every day!).
