HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Tech men’s golf team wrapped up the Carroll College Invitational today at Bill Roberts Golf Course. The Orediggers finished in second place behind Rocky Mountain.

The Orediggers shot a 297 for their third round finishing with an 876 (+12) for the tournament. The Battlin’ Bears shot a final round of 285 finishing with an 838 (-26) for the tournament.

“Our men grinded it out today in the brutal conditions and finished in a solid second place,” said head coach Sean Ryan.

Rocky’s Haydn Driver won the tournament with a final score of 206 (-10). The Bears had six of the top five golfers.

Matt Hobbs was the lone golfer to break into Rocky’s group at the top. Hobs finished with a 217 (+1) in a three way tie for fourth place.

“Hobbs finished in the top five for the second tournament in a row and we had four players finish in the top 10 with Jace, JR, and Gabe in the top 14.”

Gabe Witham, Jace Rhodesand JR Small finished in a tie for ninth place with a 220 (+4). Rhodes and Smalls were playing as individuals. Also playing as an individual, Blake Loberg finished in 12th place with a 222 (+6). Nick Pasquarello shot a 223 (+7)
finishing in 13th. Joe Opitz finished in 14th with a 225 (+9).

“Nick bounced back today after an unfortunate second round to shoot 70 and lead the team. He played a great round of golf today.”

“We are getting closer and closer to figuring out who the right lineup for us is, but we’ve got so much depth it makes every tournament scoring five such a difficult decision for me. But that’s a great problem to have is having so many talented players on
the roster.”

“As a team we were 15 shots better than last weekend which is huge. We keep getting better and better and that’s all I can ask for.”

The Orediggers are off next week before the final Frontier Conference tournament of the season. Montana Tech travels to Billings on October 3rd for the Rocky Mountain Invitational hosted at Yegen Golf Club.
