Stephanie Frappart becomes the first woman to officiate a men’s World Cup

  • by

Stephanie Frappart made history Tuesday during Group C’s match between Poland and Mexico, becoming the first woman to officiate a men’s World Cup.

Frappart, 38, is not new to breaking historical barriers. She became the first woman to referee a men’s Championship League game in 2020. The French ref has been on the FIFA International Referees List since 2009.

Frappart is one of three women to be listed as a referee for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Yoshimi Yamashita (Japan) and Salima Mukasanga (Rwanda) are the other two.
