SolarWinds announces 8th annual IT Pro Day Awards and tech market research

  • by

Global software tools provider SolarWinds has announced the winners for its 8th annual IT Pro Day awards, as well as new IT Pro Day survey findings on the state of the tech job market amid industry-wide labor shortages.

SolarWinds – makers of such well-known products as Server and Application Manager (AKA SAM), SQL Sentry, and Network Configuration Manager (NCM), among many others – has been singing the praises of the talented and hard-working IT professionals globally who create the apps and sites and services we all use and love every day.

Their annual IT Pro Day is a day to celebrate the outstanding achievements of technology professionals all around us who are transforming the world with their work, advancing company goals, creating efficiencies, and delivering beautiful products.

And, each year, SolarWinds trawls through nominations from around the world to highlight some of the greatest achievers. This year the winners are the Damstra Insights team, Zia Ur Rehman, Sebastian Gonzalez, and Tim Techathuvanan.

The awards are broken into four categories:

  • Trailblazer award: The Damstra Technology Damstra Insights team from across Australia, India, and the Philippines for their analytical insights application that aims to reduce risk in industry and ensure workforces go home to their families safely every day
  • IT mentor of the year award: Zia Ur Rehman from Pakistan for his engagement with young AI and software professionals
  • Rookie of the year award: Sebastian Gonzalez from the United States for his incredible start in the world of IT, and
  • Rockstar of the year award: Tim Techathuvanan from the United States for his vast automation skill

Additionally, SolarWinds research has found despite a potential economic downturn over two-thirds of tech and IT professionals say they’re completely confident in their career choices.

22% started a new job within the last year, and 51% said they’d considered doing so.

34% who changed positions said they loved their new job, while 15% said it’s worse, and 54% said their new role is about the same.

Overwhelming, survey respondents said pay and work-life balance are the two most important factors in their careers. 31% of respondents said they did not feel fairly compensated in their role.

“The new SolarWinds survey makes clear IT and technology sectors haven’t been immune to the staffing challenges posed by the ‘great resignation’ and pandemic,” said SolarWinds head geek Thomas LaRock. “This is particularly challenging for IT teams because they’re not only feeling understaffed but also are expected to do more with less as network environments become increasingly complicated. Remote work and hybrid and multi-cloud environments have made it extremely difficult to keep networks—and businesses—running smoothly but these IT pros show up every day to get the job done.”
