Middle infielder Trevor Story was supposed to play for Team USA, but offseason elbow surgery could force him to miss most if not all of the 2023 MLB season. Rookie first baseman Triston Casas, who dealt with some injury scare of his own, is not expected to play for Team Puerto Rico.
