The Florida Panthers did not have their best showing at Madison Square Garden last night, losing 6-2 to the New York Rangers, but they need to put that behind them as they head back on the road for the latter half of a back-to-back. -back against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Pittsburgh played a strong game on Sunday against the Devils, but a too many men penalty ended up costing them the game in overtime.

The Pens got the best of the Panthers in the first meeting — can they use home ice to their advantage tonight? Find out in our free NHL betting picks and predictions below.

Panthers vs Penguins picks and predictions

The Florida Panthers didn’t play all that poorly last night. If anything they just couldn’t find ways to get the puck past Igor Shesterkin. It seems they might be relying too much on their power play unit, going 7-for-15 over their last four games.

Tristan Jarry has been outstanding for the Pittsburgh Penguins in goal since returning from injury. He’s started and won the last two games, allowing just two goals on 70 shots. He’s also been strong overall, boasting a .921 SV% with a 2.65 goals against average and a 16-5-5 record.

Alex Lyon has gotten the last two starts for the Panthers, but they will most likely look to Spencer Knight for this game. While Knight has been decent, the Cats are certainly outmatched in net with Jarry between the pipes.

If the Pens can continue to stay out of the box — they’ve taken just five penalties in their last two games — I think they can dominate this game at 5-on-5.

This will be the Cats’ third game in four nights and the Pens should be able to take advantage. Take them to win in regulation.

Panthers vs Penguins moneyline analysis

Currently in the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, every game matters right now for the Penguins. They can feel the Buffalo Sabers catching them in the standings and are just three points ahead right now.

The Panthers have struggled in these back-to-back sets, going 0-5 in the second game of their last five back-to-backs.

Kris Letang will be making his return to the Pens lineup, which is huge for them not only for 5-on-5 play, but also for their man advantage. The Panthers are still missing some key players from their lineup, as Eric Staal, Patric Hornqvist, and Anthony Duclair will all be out.

Not only are the Penguins the better team right now, but they are also the more rested team. They should win this game.

Panthers vs Penguins Over/Under analysis

The Panthers have played in some very high-scoring games lately, with their last four games having gone over the total. Two of the Pens’ last four have gone over.

Both teams are pretty offensively talented and they aren’t necessarily incredible at keeping the puck out of their own net. Pittsburgh is currently allowing 2.98 GA/60, but they are skating to a 3.11 xGA/60. The Panthers are giving up 3.41 goals against per 60 minutes while skating to a 3.23 xGA/60.

The Panthers haven’t been very good on the road. They’re just 11-15-2 and are allowing 3.71 goals per game as the visitors, while the Pens are averaging 3.45 goals per game on home ice.

This should be a high-scoring affair… back the Over.
