Oaks Christian boys golf team finishes fourth in state

The Oaks Christian School boys golf team capped its sensational season by finishing fourth at the CIF State Championships on Wednesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

The Lions shot a 12-over-par 367 to finish behind champion De La Salle (9-under 346), runner-up Torrey Pines (1-over 356) and third-place Crystal Springs (8-over 363).

Freshman Max Emberson fired a 1-under 70 to tie for 12th as an individual to lead the Lions. Senior Nickolas Waldock tied for 22nd with a 1-over 72. Junior Jared Abercrombie tied for 30th by shooting a 3-over 74. Junior Nick Benton followed with a 75 and freshman Graham Christopher had a 76.

Luke Powell of Capistrano Valley Christian won the individual state title by firing a 7-under 64.

Oaks Christian reached the state championship by placing third in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 final, winning the SCGA Qualifying Tournament, and finishing third at the CIF/SCGA Southern California State Championship.
